CAMPUS & NATURE · TRIBUTARY CENTER
A place to work.
A landscape to discover.
Lake views, wooded trails, sandstone outcrops, and headwater streams give Tributary a character all its own. Here, the natural setting is part of the experience of coming to work.
Architecture that meets the landscape.
Tributary’s approximately four-acre grass rooftop is one of the campus’s most distinctive architectural features. Grassy rampways rise from the front of the building toward the rooftop field, linking the building’s form to its surroundings.
Rooftop viewing
The rooftop is not open to the public and is not available for event bookings. Viewing may be included on select escorted tours by prior arrangement. Additional safety improvements are needed before any broader opening; general tenant rooftop access is not currently offered.
Woodland, water, and a different workday.
Beyond the building, woodland trails, sandstone outcrops, and headwater streams reveal another side of the campus. Lake and woodland views bring that setting into the everyday experience of Tributary.
Trails are reserved for Tributary residents and office tenants for non-commercial recreation; they are not public trails. Follow posted rules and current access guidance, stay on marked paths, and leave plants and wildlife undisturbed.
FIELD NOTES · A GROWING RECORD
Getting to know what grows here.
Campus observations by Patrick Thompson, curator of Auburn University’s Davis Arboretum, are helping document the plants and habitats at Tributary. His field notes highlight the rare Alabama sandstone oak (Quercus boyntonii) and the campus’s sandstone outcrops and headwater streams.
Selected iNaturalist observations from the grounds include longleaf pine, oakleaf hydrangea, small-flower pawpaw, and downy lobelia. Together, these records offer a closer look at the landscape beyond the lawn.
Discovery is ongoing
This is a developing record, not a completed ecological inventory. Some identifications remain under review, and names may change as additional photographs, seasonal observations, and community identifications become available. These highlights refer to observations from the Tributary grounds.
